5 Advanced Strategies To Grow Your Podcast Quick

Key takeaways

As the popularity of podcasts has grown, more and more people have started their own podcasting careers, whether it’s to promote their business or simply to discuss their favorite TV shows. Starting a podcast can be easy, but growing an audience can be difficult  and it’s harder than you might think!

In this article, we’ll look at five strategies you can use to grow your podcast quickly and easily while getting more listeners that are engaged with your content.

5 Advanced Strategies To Grow Your Podcast Quick

Gaining new listeners to your podcast can be tricky business, especially if you are just starting out. Fortunately, there are a number of strategies you can use to attract new listeners, boost existing listeners’ interest, and increase the overall size of your audience. Here are five tried-and-true strategies that will help you grow your podcast quickly.

1. Network With Other Podcasters

This is probably my favorite podcast growth strategy. It is simple, relatively easy to do and can have a profound impact on your audience. Podcasting is still an emerging medium, so most of your target audience aren’t listening to podcasts. They don’t know what they are or how they work.

By making connections with other podcasters you can dramatically increase your chances of being found by new listeners who are specifically looking for something new to listen to. They will promote you back and vice versa in order to benefit each other by expanding their own audience while growing yours too! Best of all it doesn’t cost you anything at all apart from a little time but you could gain hundreds or even thousands of new listeners as a result!

Networking is a great way to get your podcast in front of more people. Reach out to other podcasters in your niche and send them a quick message, letting them know you enjoy their show and asking if they'd be willing to share it with their audience.

In addition, keep an eye out for other podcasts you like on social media and see if any of those hosts are interested in cross-promoting with you. One caveat: Do not spam or blast people for additional promotion; it will do more harm than good.

2. Be A Guest On Other Podcasts

The biggest mistake people make when looking to grow their podcast is asking only their audience to download and listen. While that may be one of your objectives, it should never be your primary goal. If you want to build a long-term listener base, then you need to bring in outside listeners. One of the best ways to do that is by being a guest on other podcasts; after all, if someone likes you enough as a guest on another show, they'll likely subscribe to your own.

The networking part we saw in strategy #1 will help us to find potential opportunities. Reachout to some podcasters in your niche and ask if they could invite you as a guest on an episode.

3. Transcribe Your Podcast

If you want to build listeners organically from search engines like Google, then you should definitely add transcribed-text snippets of your podcast into your show notes. If you know the basics of SEO then you will understand how important it is to include a keyword-rich description or transcription on your website.

It will help Google to understand more about your podcast and show them on search results. Which will in turn bring hundreds or even thousands of visitors every month.

4. List Your Podcast On Multiple Directories

Once you have your show up and running, it’s time to promote it. One of the most important places to list your podcast is on online directories. If you can get listed in multiple podcast directories, more people will know about your show and be able to listen.

Even if you don’t already have an audience, it’s possible to build one. When you create your podcast in iTunes, Spotify, or another directory, be sure to list your show in as many directories as possible.

Just use a podcast hosting service to upload your podcast episodes and then add the same to multiple podcast apps including:

  • Apple Podcasts
  • Google Podcasts
  • Spotify
  • Audible
  • Stitcher
  • TuneIn Radio
  • And more

You should never ignore any source of potential traffic or downloads. So be sure to make accounts and list your show in as many directories as possible!

5. Engage With Your Existing Audience

Engaging with your audience is a great way to start growing your podcast quickly. Some of your listeners may even start referring to their friends and family members who enjoy similar content. In fact, you might already have lots of potential new listeners in your audience already, they just need a little extra nudge to subscribe.

Make sure you’re engaging with them often and in creative ways! For example, if you have an interview-style podcast where you interview different experts on topics related to business or marketing, consider asking your existing audience what questions they would like answered on future episodes.

Or you may reply to their comments on social media platforms, reply to emails, etc.

Wrapping Up

As you grow your podcast, it’s not uncommon to start worrying about how you’re perceived by your audience. How many followers have you accrued? Is your audience growing or shrinking? Are they engaged with your content? These are all important questions to ask and keep tabs on. But at a certain point, there’s no need to worry: Just stay consistent and true to yourself, keep producing great content, and put in enough time every week (even if it’s only one hour per week) and growth will eventually come
